about the artist

eLIZabeth d. schaferWhy music?
"I create art about music, about sound, and my art expresses my passion for music. My inspiration is from music with soul, whether classical, jazz, blues, bluegrass, funk, or rock." Music and art have been a driving force throughout my life. I played the guitar as a young girl and gained a greater understanding of music's history after moving to Mississippi, the birth of the blues, in Bay St. Louis, near New Orleans the birth of jazz. I spend my time at concerts and in clubs that offer live music, sketching, taking photographs, and speaking with the musicians about their art form. My head is constantly filled with imagery as I listen to music. Enjoying the energy and rhythms, I constantly study the sound whether by musical structure or by instrument - always searching for the truth of form. During the past 12 years I have been exploring music, the sound and the atmosphere created searching for the "groove" in my abstract-expressionistic works.
